Description:
The suspensory ligament of the duodenum (Treitz ligament) is shown in a dissection specimen.
The ligament is a combined musculoligamentous structure, thet connects the diaphragm to the duodenojejunal flexure, elevating it and causing the sharp bend between duodenum and jejunum.
The 'point of Treitz' (duodenojejunal flexure), one of the most central points in gastroenteric surgery, derives it name from this ligament.
The ligament was first described by W. Treitz, Krakau, in 1853.
