Description:
Classification of the ribs. The upper seven ribs are called the true ribs (costae verae) and have their cartilage diretly attached to the sternum. The 8th-12th ribs are false ribs (costae spuria) as they are attached to the sternum via the cartilage of rib 6 and 7. False rib 11 and 12 are not attached to the sternum, these are called the floating ribs (costae fluctuantes). Latin labels.
