Newey - 3D model Kidney with Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) compared to a healthy kidney

Description:
These models depict a healthy kidney and a kidney affected by late-stage Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD). ADPKD is a genetic disorder that causes multiple fluid-filled cysts to grow in the kidneys. If too many cysts grow, or they get too big, they can greatly enlarge and damage the kidneys. The cysts can eventually replace much of the kidneys, reducing kidney function and eventually leading to kidney failure. In some cases, polycystic kidneys can grow as large as an American football. ADPKD is the most common inherited form while Autosomal Recessive PKD (ARPKD) is much rarer. These models were created in ZBrush using a variety of credible reference images.
